Joining HALO
There are two types of membership within HALO: Local British Orienteering
membership and National British Orienteering membership.
To determine which level of membership is applicable, you need to
consider how often, and where you will Orienteer. If you intend
to compete within the Yorkshire & Humberside region,
then Local membership may be appropriate. Many Events have a discount for
British Orienteering members, so the membership fees can be recouped

Benefits of becoming a Local HALO Member of British Orienteering:
- Meet other people with similar interests and be part of a thriving club
- Participate in all the club's activities, which include regional,
colour-coded & local events; training, coaching and social
activities.
- Receive the club’s newsletter-HALO News-free of charge; with lists
of future events, news of events, articles about orienteering and other
club news. Published 5 times a year.
- Obtain free entry in Compass Sport Cup matches and some Relays
- Obtain half price entry for HALO events (when helping).
- Purchase club kit
- Share transport
- Insurance cover (public liability) at events registered with British Orienteering
- Bi-Annual Newsletter from British Orienteering
- Eligibility to compete in the JK, national, regional and local
events with discounted entry to regional and local events held by other
clubs in the YHOA region only. (Discount generally £2.00 per adult)
- Papers and vote at the British Orienteering AGM
- Discounts from national companies through the member discounts
scheme NB: Discounts for 2009 include money off AA membership/Cotswold
Outdoor/Field & Trek/Go Ape and many more
- Access to a member only section of British Orienteering that will
enable you to update your details and renew your membership online.
Benefits of becoming a National HALO Member of British Orienteering:

- Quarterly issue of the British Orienteering magazine, Focus, which includes the junior magazine Ozone.
- Eligibility to compete in the British Championships as well as, JK, national, regional and local events
- Discounted entry to the JK, national, regional and local events in
all regions and significant saving (£2 per day) when entering a
multi-day holiday event (such as the Scottish 6-day, Croeso or the
Lakes 5-day) when held outside the YHOA Region.
- Opportunity to qualify to represent your country at international competitions
- Access to a national badge and ranking scheme
Membership Fees for 2010
For new members Local membership of British Orienteering (BO) is free for
2010 provided you have not been a member in the last three years.
There is a £1.00 reduction for paying by Direct Debit
A family consist of 2 adults max. ( juniors – under 21 on Jan 1st 2010). (Cheaper to be a family than 2 seniors)
